About Us
Mid Canterbury TimeBank is an initiative of Connecting Mid Canterbury Charitable Trust, founded in 2017. The Trust's mission is to support the growth of a regenerative, resilient and caring community by connecting people, services and resources in Mid Canterbury. To achieve its aims the Trust also runs Keep Learning Mid Canterbury, an adult and community education programme and website.
The TimeBank logo conveys what is at the heart of Mid Canterbury Timebank and that is community. The connected hexagons remind us of the internal structure of beehives which we associate with busy activity, working together and the production of something sweet.
Alone, one bee might seem insignificant, but when working together with others it accomplishes beautiful things- like the making of delicious honey and the pollination of crops. We too may feel insignificant by ourselves but by joining with others in the TimeBank, sharing skills and connecting with people we might never otherwise have met, we can play our part in developing a strong community that is doing beautiful things here in Mid Canterbury!
Getting involved in the TimeBank is a great way for people in the Ashburton district to put into practice the Five Ways to Wellbeing, as recommended by the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand. Through social events and timebank exchanges people can ‘Give, Be Active, Keep Learning, Connect and Take Notice’.
It’s not just individual people that are involved, the TimeBank has about 20 organisations that are members too. Some join to find volunteers or reward their existing volunteers with time credits. Others get involved so they can connect their clients with more people or get them extra support. New members are always welcome.
